Making the Most of 2025: Lessons from Psalm 90
Time has a way of slipping by quickly, doesn’t it? Whether you’re having fun or not, it can feel like the days just fly by. This is something Moses reminds us of in Psalm 90, where he offers a prayer that speaks to the brevity of life and the importance of living wisely.
The verse that stands out is Psalm 90:12:
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
This simple yet powerful prayer encourages us to reflect on how we spend our time. Time is fleeting, and this verse calls us to make the most of it by living with purpose and wisdom.
As we look ahead to 2025, here are three key thoughts to guide you into the new year:
1. Approach 2025 with Gratitude
Moses not only reminds us of God’s greatness but also of our tendency to take His goodness for granted. Even in times of struggle, we must remember to be grateful for God’s grace—His all-sufficient grace that carries us through every season. Life is short, and this life is ultimately a preparation for the eternal one to come. Gratitude helps us stay focused on what truly matters, acknowledging that even in hardship, God’s grace is enough.
2. Don’t Stop Praying and Seeking God’s Wisdom
This Sunday marks the beginning of our 21 Days of Prayer and Fasting, and I want to challenge you to engage fully in this time. Over the past year, we’ve witnessed incredible miracles in our church family—marriages restored, doctor’s reports turned around, healings, and spiritual gifts poured out. As Pastor Brandon shared recently, “If you only knew how much MORE God has in store for you!” Let’s dig our wells deep!”
Moses prays, “May the favor of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us—yes, establish the work of our hands” (Psalm 90:17).
God has more to offer, and when we seek His wisdom and favor, we open ourselves to His guidance and provision in ways we can’t even imagine. Don’t let up on praying and seeking God. He is faithful and has great plans for you in 2025!
3. Prioritize Others
Moses’ prayer is full of the words “our” and “us”—he was always thinking about the people around him. His whole life was dedicated to serving others. Similarly, the Apostle Paul writes in Philippians 2:3-4:
“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.”
As we step into 2025, let’s make others a priority. Ask yourself: How can I be more generous, more servant-hearted, more forgiving? Who in my life needs my encouragement or help? Who can I walk alongside and disciple in the coming year?
Take Action: Reflect, Pray, and Set Intentions for 2025
Take some time today and tomorrow to read through Psalm 90. Reflect on its message, spend time praying, and journal about what God might be stirring in your heart for 2025. Ask Him to show you how you can live more intentionally, with wisdom, gratitude, and a focus on others.
As you prepare for the new year, let’s step forward together, knowing that time is precious and the opportunities God gives us to grow, serve, and impact others are all part of His beautiful plan for our lives.
